Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia (Afrikaans Republiek van Namibië, German: Republik Namibia), is a country in Southern Africa whose western border is the Atlantic Ocean. It shares land borders with Angola and Zambia to the north, Botswana and Zimbabwe to the east, and South Africa to the south and east. It gained independence from South Africa on 21 March 1990 following the Namibian War of Independence. Its capital and largest city is Windhoek (German: Windhuk). Namibia is a member state of the United Nations (UN), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU), the Commonwealth of Nations and many other international organisations. It has been given many names: the land of contrasts, the land God made in anger, the ageless land. For many years it was known only as South West Africa, but it adopted the name Namibia, after the Namib Desert. It is the second least densely populated country in the world, after Mongolia.

The South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) is a political party and former liberation movement in Namibia. It has been the governing party in Namibia since independence in 1990. For electoral purposes, it is referred to as the SWAPO Party. The party won 75.1\\% of popular votes and 55 out of 78 seats in the parliamentary election held on November 15, 2004.[1] Though the organization strongly insisted upon rejecting the term "South West Africa" and replacing it with "Namibia", the organization's own name — derived from the territory's old name — was already too deeply rooted to be changed.

The Rally for Democracy and Progress is the latest major political party to emerge on the Namibian political scene. Launched on the 17th November 2007, the RDP was founded by a group of forward-looking Namibians in response to a host of socio-economic and political problems confronting Namibia today. These problems include wide-spread poverty, a stagnant economy, inequity, rising unemployment, steadily declining quality of health and education, political stagnation, incompetence and lack of developmental progress. Taken together, all these problems underline the ugly reality of bad and inefficient governance, which must be addressed with urgency and passion to prevent the country from sliding deeper into a worse state of underdevelopment quagmire.

Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is indispensable for freedom, justice and peace; Whereas the said rights include the right of the individual to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, regardless of race, colour, ethnic origin, sex, religion, creed or social or economic status; Whereas the said rights are most effectively maintained and protected in a democratic society, where the government is responsible to freely elected representatives of the people, operating under a sovereign constitution and a free and independent judiciary; Whereas these rights have for so long been denied to the people of Namibia by colonialism, racism and apartheid.

CHANGE is an independent Non Govern-mental Organisation (NGO) actively involved in uplifting Namibian communities and contributing to economic and social development by re-integrating ex-prisoners into society. Our organization is not only dealing with ex-prisoners, it is also open to members of the community who come from disadvantaged backgrounds or adverse social condtions. The task has thus been very difficult as Namibia has a great number of unemployed people and companies are reluctant to employ ex-prisoners and semi-illiterate members of CHANGE. HIV/Aids, poverty and unemployment continue to be the major challenges for the whole of Namibian society.
